It is the first day of the SICYC Rendezvous,
largely devoted to registration, some more boat arrivals, and the formal part
of proceedings is a happy hour at Montes Resort, to meet up with everyone.
Most of us need to go ashore in the morning
and get the participation wristbands, book restaurant times for the functions and
pick up a bit of merchandise.
We motored off in our dinghy at around
10.30 am, dropping in to see the 2 nearby Hanses on the way ( Soleil and
Eureka), we then tracked down Bill and Linda Castles on About Time, had coffee with them, and
eventually got to shore by noon (having made arrangements to catch up with Bill
and Linda for lunch at 1 pm at Cape Gloucester Resort).
The beach is littered with dinghies as
everyone is coming ashore. A few trailer sailors have also arrived occupying
prime real estate on the shoreline sitting on the bottom.
Once our duties were complete we walked
around to Cape Gloucester Resort from Montes (where the SICYC organisers are
based), and had lunch with the Castles. It is a very pleasant spot with good
food.
On our way back to the boat (actually a
fair way out of our way), we visited the nearby trawler to see if we could buy
some prawns, but unfortunately to could not raise anyone onboard, so came back
empty handed. Maybe better luck tomorrow (if he comes back)
It was back to shore at 4.30pm for the meet
and greet happy hour, with most people dressed in their blue Vice Commodore
polo shirts. It was a big crowd, and very spread out.
We ended up having a drink with the rest of the Hanse owners and Bill and Linda, heading back to the boat before dark for a BBQ on board. Bill and Linda joined us, and managed to find their way home in the dark through a maze of boats.
