The good weather is becoming a bit
monotonous, but we are not complaining. It is a bit breezy this morning but it
is fine and warm. I decided to see if there were any fish around, put the
dinghy in the water and we motored out towards the harbour entrance to put in a
line and see what we got.
The current was pretty strong so holding
our position was difficult. We caught a small spotted cod and a lot of snags. A
change of tactics to tow a lure for a while also didn’t yield anything
worthwhile. Apparently the fishing catch is a bit disappointing at the moment
due to the water temperature being a bit cooler than normal. Dodging the traffic coming in and out of the harbour added another dimension to the fishing experience.
The wave action in Cleveland Bay was a bit
uncomfortable in the dinghy so we only ventured outside the harbour entrance
for a short time, before retreating to protected waters, back inside.
The afternoon was pretty relaxed including
a walk up to the fishing tackle shop to get some new hooks for my favourite
lure. The mackerel tuna we caught bent the hooks on the old one. I was also
looking for some 50lb braid, but baulked at paying $79 for a spool.
