Sunday 9th August 2015
Horseshoe
Bay
It is another day of outstanding weather ,
cool nights make sleeping very comfortable, and by mid morning we are in the
mid 20’s. Today is market day at Horseshoe Bay, so we plan to catch the 10.05am
bus to get us there. At the bus stop we ran into Mark, Janet and family who had
the same idea.
As it is only 10 km to Horseshoe Bay, the
trip doesn’t take very long. However it is Sunday, so the crowds are
reasonable, as many Townsville residents come over to Maggie on the weekends.
The markets are not that great, mostly
cheap jewelry and a few other local handicrafts. A complete tour takes about 20
minutes.
Horseshoe Bay Sunday Market
Horseshoe Bay is full of boats at anchor,
around 50 at a rough count. Ruby and a few other boats we have seen along the
way are anchored here. The tide is going out, so swimming involves standing
about knee deep in the receding water. We didn’t bring our swimming gear, but
weren’t disappointed that we hadn’t.
The beach is nice, and up the Western end,
there are horses and people dressed up in cowboy gear doing some sort of
fashion photo shoot.
By the time we had a good look around it
was 12 noon, and the next bus back to Nelly Bay isn’t till 1.05pm, so we found
a comfortable spot at the pub overlooking the beach, to have lunch and wait
the bus.
We were back at the boat by a bit after
1.30 pm and had a relaxing afternoon.
