After a frightful night a Cape Bowling Green, we were ready to go somewhere more hospitable, and the agreed 10 am departure was moved forward to 9.30 am. The conditions were unpleasant, to say the least, with the boat bouncing around as we tried to retrieve the anchor, and waves breaking over the bow.
Not very inviting conditions to be anchored in
The change of tide was interesting as the blue water from the incoming tide replaced the muddy water that had been stirred up by the wind
Once the anchor was up, raising the mainsail was also a bit more challenging than normal, and a reefing line caught in a block, helped us make a quick decision to sail with a single reef in rather than try to sort it out under these conditions. As it turned out, we had a great sail and only really lost out in the latter part of the trip when then wind dropped.
Cape Cleveland
We were in our berth at Magnetic Island 5 hours after leaving Cape Bowling Green, most of the way averaging just over 7 knots. As we rounded Cape Cleveland the wind dropped right out and in the end we pulled in the sails and motored for the last hour.
We were in the marina at around 2.30 pm, and are in a great berth close to everything. Once Koonya and Ruby came in and were secure in their berths, we had a few beers and agreed to head out to Man Friday restaurant for dinner after we had all done our chores and had a shower.
The food at the restaurant is Mexican / International. We chose a mix of Mexican dishes to share and enjoyed the food (and the fact that the restaurant is BYO)
