Rock Wallabies, Oysters and Indonesian Food

Friday 14th August 2015

It is a windy day at Magnetic Island, but not as strong as they are experiencing further South. I ran the watermaker this morning to give it a freshwater flush, and wandered down the road with my jerry cans on a trolley to get some diesel, completing the chores for the day.

Mark and Janet have been in Townsville last night catching up with some relatives and will be back this afternoon.

August appears to be birthday season amongst our sailing friends. In the coming week we have a 70th, a 60th and of course Carole’s birthday. The first 2 are big events, with Dave from Soleil’s family flying in for the celebrations, and Geoff from Ruby having a big party next weekend. There was also a birthday last week from one of the other boats “Back Friday”

We didn’t venture too far from the marina, going for a few short walks to check out Bright Point and a few of the adjacent areas. The rock wallabies seem to really like Bright Point.

These 2 wallabies were in the yard of one of the Mercure Apartments

When we got back to the boat Mark and Janet had returned, and Janet and Carole set out (by water) to get some oysters, which are plentiful on the rocks all around the harbour.

The Oyster hunters (Somehow Carole managed to borrow Soleil's dinghy)

It was oysters with predinner drinks before we walked to Arcadia Hotel to try out the local Indonesian “Restaurant”.

Janet was very productive in collecting oysters

Dave, Diane, family and friends from Soleil obviously had the same idea and were already settled in at the pub when we arrived.

Nells Indonesian Food only opens on Wednesday and Friday nights
