The strong winds have arrived and most boats are sitting it out here at the marina, Hamilton Island (not good for the bank balance), Nara Inlet or Cid Harbour. Apparently there are around 80 boats in Cid Harbour. With little sign of relief until early next week, it is going to be a fair wait.
There are always chores to be done, so the day gets filled in doing small jobs that seem to always be around. Fortunately the chandlery here stocks just about everything, so the parts you are looking for are generally easy to come by.
South marina is very busy with 2 cruise ships in port today and all of the tender traffic comes into this part of the marina.
We had a BBQ on Mica with Steve and Kim, for dinner and tomorrow plan to rent a car and have a game of golf. Steve and Kim are going to share the rental with us, and go for a drive whilst we are golfing.
Friday 11th September 2015
It is very windy and overcast this morning with some rain. Nevertheless, we continue with our plan to get a rental car and have a game of golf at Proserpine Golf Course.
When we collected the car, it was raining, but we convinced ourselves it was only on the coast and Proserpine would be fine. It is only a bit over half and hour drive to the golf club, where Steve and Kim drop us off in overcast conditions but it is not raining.
Only a few holes into our round, the heavens opened accompanied by very strong gusty winds. We did our best to seek shelter under the trees until it passed.
The weather is not looking good
Carole seeking shelter from a squall
This happened a further 2 or 3 times during the round and the combination of high winds, heavy rain, and being soaked through made it a challenging game. It is the 5th round of the Mica Cup, so a lot is at stake, and we continued on in the poor conditions. At the commencement of the round, Carole has a lead of 12 stableford points.
The course will benefit from the rain, everything here is very dry
The conditions suit Mike's game better, and at the end of the round Carole's overall lead has been reduced to only 2 points.
We have the car until 11 am tomorrow, so are going to drive into town for dinner tonight and will use it in the morning to do our last big shop before we head out early next week.
Dinner ended up being at the Coral Sea Resort, not far from the marina. It was one of the best meals we have had since leaving Sydney.
