Friday 4th September 2015
The boats started leaving Nara from
daybreak, but there were still plenty there when we were up.
The wind is forecast to be SE 15 to 20
knots, moving East later in the day, so we decide to go to Stonehaven on the Western
side of Hook Island where hope to pick
up a mooring and get some shelter.
We are lucky enough to pick up the last available
mooring in the Southern part of the bay, but it is still pretty windy and not
very inviting to get out and around.
By mid afternoon the wind settled down and
we went ashore at high tide to explore a small beach not far from our mooring.
We motored in over the reef but the water was not clear enough to get a good
view of what was underneath us.
The beach, whilst small, had lots of
interesting rock formations and the usual collection of seashells and broken
coral on the sand.

We spent about an hour over there and
motored back to the boat to try a bit of fishing. The end result was 2 small
tusk fish, and even smaller cod and a large piece of loose coral.
There was a nice sunset looking out toward
Langford and Hayman islands, and it was very peaceful here after dark. A number
of boats arrived before sunset anchoring all over the place, with bigger ones
anchored out in the main channel. Hayman Island looked very impressive lit up
at night. The resort is a lot bigger than I had imagined.
We all slept well.
