It is very gusty this morning at the marina with gusts up around 30 knots. I have to put a couple of extra fenders on the dockside as we are being blown onto the dock.
Mark and Janet have the rigger coming this morning to fix their rigging, so we decide to go into town to do a bit of shopping. Initial attempts to rent a car prove futile, so we caught the bus from the marina and will get a cab home.
After doing some shopping, Smithy got a haircut, and the cab brought us home via Dan Murphys, we were stocked back up in most things. there is a market at the marina over the weekend, so we will get out fresh fruit and vegetables there. We were back at the marina at around 3pm.
The couple we met on the trailer sailer, Top Shelf, are in the marina now not far from us. I guess the prospect of sitting out the Southerly out in the islands was less appealing.
Next to us, on the marina, is a small tug that is being renovated to make it comfortable for cruising. The guy who owns it, Chris, is doing a fantastic job and really puts in the hours. The tug has fascinating history. It was originally put into service in the Clarence River, servicing Harwood Sugar mill (it is called "Harwood"). It then worked for many years in the Torres Straight, and was given a serious cabin upgrade with old steel fabricated cabin being replaced with alloy. Finally, it relocated to Mackay, where Chris purchased it from the previous private owner.
Chris is completely refitting it out internally and has added a solid cover over the stern, and cut portholes in the bow to provide light for the below deck cabin.
The aft deck is currently a workshop
Sundowners were on Koonya this afternoon, before retiring to our individual boats for dinner.
