No Real Improvement in the Weather, a Bit more Rain

Saturday 13th June 2015

Another day of pretty ordinary weather, so much for "beautiful one day, perfect the next." Today we had a bit more rain and some minor abatement in the wind.

Todays highlight was the appearance of the Channel 7 Sunrise team, to give the weather report from Keppel Bay Marina. There was a modest crowd of interested people who gathered around to watch the filming, in between rain squalls.

Otherwise it has been a day of getting ready to leave and head further North tomorrow, if the weather is favourable. I topped up the diesel from our jerry cans and refilled what I had used at the local servo, about 300m from the marina.

We shared a rental car with Mark and Janet and went into Rockhampton to  do a bit of shopping. The Hyundai Getz could hardly fit us in, let alone our purchases.

Mark and Janet made a substantial contribution to the Rockhampton economy, by making some substantial purchases at The Good Guys in photographic equipment. The deals being offered up here were very attractive.

We drove home through Yeppoon, where we did our grocery shopping at Woolies. How we got it all in the Getz with the four of us is amazing. It was around 4 pm by the time we got back to the marina and had to get final preparations in place (filling water tanks, last minute laundry etc). A final visit to the Rosslyn Bay Fishermans Market to buy some prawns  was also part of the plan.

For dinner, we planned to go to Beaches Restaurant, not far from the marina. By the time we completed all of our chores, and had a pre dinner drink, it was already 7.30 pm. there was also patchy rain squalls coming through. Anyway, we turned up at the restaurant, only to be turned away, because they had a private function on. We headed back to the marina and ordered a couple of pizzas for delivery, which by now was all we felt like.

We will look at the forecast in the morning and make a decision then if we leave and head off to Pearl Bay, or alternative anchorages if the weather isn't right for there, or stay a bit longer here.
