After a great night's sleep at a very comfortable anchorage, we awoke to another lovely day. We plan to raise anchors at 7.30am and head off to Bundaberg. The forecast is for a good sailing breeze, with a reach all of the wary to Bundaberg. Of course none of this materialised.
Our last view of Kingfisher Resort as we leave
Anchored Near us is this Cat, "Reckless and Irresponsible" . Not sure how apt the name is but they have been in the same anchorages as us for the last few days, and seem OK
Koonya leaving North West Cliffs in balmy conditions
What really happened with the weather was a light mostly westerly breeze most of the way, which at least allowed us to motor sail, with some good speed assistance and reduced diesel consumption.
Breakfast on the run was pretty special
After battling a current at around 2 knots to get out into the larger part of Hervey Bay, we eventually had the benefit of a 7-8 knot westerly, which allowed us to motor with the benefit of having some sail up, reducing revs significantly.
Towards midday, the current turned in our favour, pretty much eliminating the losses we made earlier in the day.
With just a headsail up, motorsailing at 6-7 knots at low revs was the go.
We entered the Port of Bundaberg just before 4 pm, and were at the marina soon after. It was dead low tide and getting into our allotted marina berth was a real surprise. As we approached our berth the shallow water alarm went off and we had zero clearance under the keel as we tried to get into our berth.
Koonya had similar issues and we both enjoyed a cold beer once settled. We had dinner at the restaurant at the marina, and will probably all sleep well tonight.
There is supposed to be a Southerly change coming through tonight, but based on the accuracy of forecasts so far, who knows what to expect.
