The wind howled all last night and all through today, with some light rain. We are very happy to be tucked away in the marina, rather than anchored out in some exposed anchorage.
Sitting in a berth just near us is a boat called Glidepath, who we first met up with in Coffs Harbour. Carole was told to look out for them, as she plays golf with the owners sister in law.
Glidepath (Jarkan 47)
There are 5 Hanses on our marina arm, 4 of us from Sydney and one from Mooloolaba. There certainly appears to be more of them out cruising.
Mark and Janet have settled into the marina lifestyle with ease, testing out the marina cafe breakfast on day one.
After filling the gas bottle, and doing the laundry, it was time to stretch the legs and go for a walk, in between rain showers. The wind continued to blow well over 20 knots all day and the sea doesn't look all that appealing. Needless to say, no-one is leaving the marina.
Somehow photos do not capture the sea state, but the water colour is a bit of a giveaway that there is a lot of turbulence stirring up the bottom.
Our walk took us around to the Rosslyn Bay Fish Markets, just below the headland, where a good range of seafood is for sale, sadly a lot of it frozen.
It is one of the few places open today (outside the marina), as it is a public holiday, Rockhampton Show Day.
An afternoon wander around the marina provided the opportunity to meet up with a few more cruisers including a couple from RPAYC who we had spoken to at one of the RPAYC First Friday functions. Their boat, Ruby ( a Dufour 410), left a few weeks before us, and caught up the Steve Smith on Wilparina in the Great Sandy Straights. No doubt we will see more of them from now on, as they are also keen golfers.
The wind strengthened this afternoon and we experienced one nasty little squall.
Tonight we are eating out at the Restaurant at the marina. The menu and food quality is very good, if not a bit pricey. Barbara from Glidepath joined us for dinner as her husband is currently in Sydney. As we were finishing our meal, Geoff and Jenny from Ruby wandered up and decided to join us all for a glass of red wine.
