We are getting used to the boat leaning
over in the strong northerlies at the Bundaberg marina. There seems to be no
end to these howling winds for the next several days. There is little prospect
of us leaving here until it passes.
Today Lyn and Andrew from Mischief have
hired a car to go shopping and have asked us if we wish to join them. Naturally
we accepted, as shopping options around the marina are limited, but adequate,
without the large choice you get in town.
It turned out to be a great morning,
as Andrew grew up in Bundaberg, and
there was a lot of local knowledge that came in very handy, and we had a guided
tour of Bundaberg at the same time. By 1pm, the car was full of our shopping,
and it was time to return to the marina.
The afternoon was taken up doing a few
chores like getting diesel etc. , and assisting the constant flow of boats
arriving at the marina to escape the high winds out at sea. It is not an easy
marina to get into your berth in windy conditions, and we witnessed a couple of near
disasters.
Shaggers get special treatment at Bundaberg
marina, with a 10% discount on berth costs, an 11 cent rebate on diesel
purchases and if you stay for 5 days, you get two extra days free and a seafood
platter for two. Andrew and Lyn had hit this milestone, and were having their
platter for dinner.
Both Dalwhinnie and ourselves liked the
sound of a seafood dinner and Carole and Amanda put together our own platters
purchasing seafood from the excellent retail outlet at the seafood co-op that
adjoins the marina.
We all dined on Dalwhinnie and had one of
the best seafood meals we have had on this trip, finished off with some apple
pie that Carole had baked for my birthday, whilst we were at Lady Musgrave.
Seafood feast on Dalwhinnie
A great night was had by all.
