It is our 5th day here at
Rosslyn Bay, and despite the attraction of getting 2 free days having paid for
5, we are keen to move on. Today is not the day to do it, as the weather has
not yet settled, but tomorrow looks good.
Having done most of our maintenance and
provisioning chores, we decided to catch a bus into Rockhampton to check out
the big smoke in this region. The bus left at 9.15 am, and gave us a great tour
of the only bits of Yeppoon we had not seen, ending up in Rocky at around 10.30
am. The only real mission we had in
going to Rocky, other than to have a look around, was to get a replacement
cylinder for our soda king.
The Bus arrives at Rockhampton
Once off the bus we had about a 20 minute
walk to Allentown Square, where we knew there was a newsagent that supplied
exchange cylinders. The soda king
network using news agents is quite clever as it gives them great coverage
without having get involved with Coles or Woolies.
Stockmans Corner saignifies the importance of the Beef industry to Rocky
On the walk back to the “City Centre”, we
called in at a RTM store hoping to buy some new plates that we quite liked when
we saw them in Mackay. They had a deal on in their catalogue that the store
manager was unaware of, but happy to honour. Sadly they did not have the stock,
so we will try again a bit further down the coast. There is no urgency to replace
what we currently have, but the new products have many advantages, in particular
non slip bases.
The Queenslander Home is still on display in the centre of town
Not too much traffic stress here
And there is a lot of History including this Dept Store which dates back to the 1800's
We did our last minute perishables shopping
in Rocky, caught the bus home, and hosted sundowners on Mica at 5 pm, where we
sorted out tomorrows plan, which is to sail to Masthead Island in company with
Dalwhinnie and Moonshadow.
