Normal marina duties at Rosslyn Bay

Friday 15th September 2017

It was nice to be in flat water for a good nights sleep after a bouncy trip from  Port Clinton to Rosslyn Bay. The wind continued to blow hard overnight and throughout today, easing after dark.

The normal marina duties were the focus today, washing the boat, getting diesel etc. Once that was out of the way we went for a walk around to the Fisherman’s Market to see what was on offer. There is a large fire dominating our view to the west, which is probably a cane fire, but looks like it is really getting stirred up by the wind.

Once at the fish market we had no trouble selecting some items to add to our food supply, frozen tiger prawns, some Morton Bay bugs, whiting fillets and some fresh prawns for lunch.

The fresh prawns were very nice for lunch, we bought a bag of mixed prawns for $19.90 per kilo, very fresh and tasty.

Walking around the marina to have a bit of a look around I came across a boat we knew well, Chilli Heat, which used to be owned by an ex commodore of the CCCA. It was sold a year or so ago, and talking to the new owner, he immediately said you must be a CCCA member, as he has been approached by many other members recalling the great parties that Chilli Heat hosted over the years.

Tonight we plan to go to the Capricornia Coast Cruising Yacht Club, for their famous Friday night dinner. The dinner is cooked by volunteers and for a mere $15 you get a main course and dessert. Tonight it was beef stroganoff and apple strudel for dessert, and it was a very good meal. It is an extremely friendly club, and we had organised a table with the 2 Geelong based boats we have been sailing with since Mackay, Freestyle 1 and Moonshadow of Geelong. Another local couple joined our table for dinner. They were an interesting couple who had only moved here 5 months ago from Kingscliff, working for the Govt on mental health  and NDIS issues.

Tomorrow we expect Dalwhinnie to arrive at Rosslyn Bay, with the forecast looking a lot better and they are currently at Island Head Creek. Freestyle1 is heading further south as they are on a tight deadline, and Moonshadow will hang around for a day or so. They may continue on with us if it suits their plans.
