Stronger Winds at Bundaberg

Sunday 24th September 2017

The wind stepped up a pace today, and it has been pretty bumpy even on the marina berth. It looks like we have a few more days of this before we leave to move further South. The forecast is a bit of a moving feast at the moment, but Wednesday is our current departure target.

After breakfast, we decided to stretch our legs and walk into Burnett Heads. Keeping a hat on in the wind is a major challenge.

There are more and more boats anchored in the river, and the conditions there do not look pleasant. Waves are breaking over the northern breakwall and all of the monohulls have a big rolling action happening.

Burnett heads is pretty quiet. We stopped at the bakery for a cup of coffee , checked out the IGA Supermarket, and walked back to the marina. The marina has stopped accepting arrivals into blow off berths (which is pretty much all they have left), because they are almost impossible to get into without causing damage.

This afternoon we are having afternoon tea on Mischief, with Brian and Amanda, including a boat tour. She is a Valiant 40, built on the West Coast of USA , and is hull number 18. They are ideal bluewater boats, perhaps a bit slow, but built to take the treatment of heavy seas. It is still Andrew and Lyn’s plan to take her offshore, probably from next year.

Mischief is beautifully fitted out internally in classic styling and looks like she would be a very comfortable boat for a couple.

Tonight we ate out at the Baltimore Restaurant here at the marina, with Andrew and Lyn. It was not overly busy but the food was good.
