Cid Harbour lived up to its reputation as a
very comfortable anchorage over night. We are headed to Hamilton Island this
morning to get a berth for the night and collect Michelle and Cody who are
spending the next week with us.
The breeze is a bit confused this morning,
but eventually settles in to a steady SE breeze of around 10 to15 knots. We
motored down from Cid Harbour as it is only an hour away and we are straight
into it.
By 11.20am we were tied up in the marina,
and relieved of the $120 for our
overnight stay, by the concierge who carries an EFTPOS machine to make it
convenient to pay without having to go the office.
The damage to the marina here is a lot more
significant than I had realized, and it is operating well below capacity as
they rebuild the damaged marina legs.
They do not have a lot of time between now and the Hamilton Island Race
Week, and I am sure the goal is to have it all ready to take as many boats as
possible.
Michelle and Cody arrived just before 1pm, after a long and tiring flight from Perth. Once settled in on the boat we headed out for a walk and to have lunch.
After fish and Chips for lunch, from Popeye’s,
still very good, we went for a walk around towards the marina office where
further cyclone damage ids obvious as is the effort going in to fix it quickly.
We caught the Green Bus over to Catseye
Beach, and had a good wander around the Beach Club, the nicest of the resorts
on this side of the island. It is surprisingly busy and whilst some cyclone
damage is still evident, the place appears to be going well.
Cody was keen to give their swimming pool a go
We made good use of the facilities there
Once we had a good look around we walked
over to the Reef Hotel to catch the Green Bus back to the marina side of the
island. We walked out to the yacht club, and watched a bit of traffic going in
and out of the harbour.
Back at Mica, we started planning for
tomorrow and as Cody is such a keen fisherman, I figured we could use some more
bait. Would you believe that Hamilton Island is sold out of bait until tomorrow
afternoon when the next supplies come in !!!!
I rigged up a line for Cody with a small
lure on it and he had a fish on his 3rd cast. As far as we can work
out it was a pony fish, not that big and may have been good for bait, but we
tossed it back.
Tomight we went to Mantaray Café for dinner
and had a very nice dinner, before getting our weary travellers back to Mica
for a good nights rest.
