Sunday 2nd July 2017
It is a miserable start to the day with
strong winds and light rain for a fair bit of the morning.
Nevertheless, we need to give the boat a
good soapy washdown, not only to wash all the salt off the deck, but also the
substantial contributions the cormorants have made.
The light rain continues, but we decide we
will walk into town to get fresh bread etc before we head back out into the
islands. There is a bit of activity in town, particularly at Magnums backpacker resort / pub which we later realized
were people watching the welterweight boxing match.
At one of the tourist shops we found a T shirt/
singlet which seems to sum up Airlie very well.
Once back at our boat, we received a
message from Kite Runner saying they were coming into the marina and wanted to
know if we were still here. They ended up getting a berth on the North marina,
about as far away from us as is possible. They ended up coming into the marina
because they had run out of gas.
Anyway, we caught up and had a very nice
dinner together at Hemmingways Restaurant, an excellent addition to the dining options
here at Abell Point, and it was booked out.
Based on the current forecast we are
heading out into the islands tomorrow planning to come back here probably on
Friday to stock up before we go to Hamilton Island on Monday to pick up
Michelle and Cody who are flying in from Perth to spend a week with us.
