The strong Southerly arrived last night as promised, although it does not appear as strong as was forecast, not on the Gold Coast anyway. The temperature has dropped by it is still an acceptable 22 C when the sun gets up a bit.
Not a bad day for Winter
A weather check around lunch time showed it was blowing 36 knots off Cape Morton, on our route to Mooloolaba, so maybe the forecast wasn't too bad after all. We still plan to sail up there on Sunday, based on the current forecasts.
The boat on our port side at the marina disappeared whilst we were out this morning. Not sure whether he has gone for good or if he will return. He has been very busy getting his boat "Shelanu", ready to sail north in the coming month.
At around 4pm there was a lot of shouting outside, so I went out to have a look, and Shelanu had returned and was trying to get back into his berth, in a strong South westerly. It took he and his other crew member and Carole and I on the dock to get him in, as the wind kept blowing him off the leg.
On our starboard side, the other boat fitting solar panels, "Artful Dodger", is almost complete , but only managed to get 600W of panels on to his bimini due to a measurement error. In the early afternoon , the trimmer turned up and fitted a canvas top to the bimini, and clears all around the cockpit.
Next time we looked, he was gone.
It is a pretty lazy day and after an afternoon walk we settled back in and ate on board tonight. I went for a wander across the road to have a look at the ocean, and whilst there were plenty of white caps, the swell doesn't appear to increased greatly, at this stage.
We heard from "Koonya" , who is currently in Bundaberg. They are looking to head on to Pancake Creek on Saturday. We will catch them eventually.
We had some of the king prawns we bought yesterday and they were every bit as good as they looked.
