Sunday 11th June 2017
An early start for our trip to Pancake
Creek required a 5.30am alarm and a plan to leave the marina at around 6 am.
Annecam is also leaving at the same time so we expect to sail in company.
The sunrise is quite spectacular, as we
leave Bundaberg shores, and the breeze is strong enough (just) to allow us to
carry a full main and the code zero as we head north.
For about 4.5 hours we have a lovely SE
breeze at 10-15 knots that has us moving along very nicely in flat seas at around
7 knots. As has been the case for the last several days, by around midday, the
wind drops to below 10 knots, and if it is right behind you, you grind to a
halt.
The seas were flat and it was a pretty relaxed
sail. So much so, that Carole decided to do a bit of baking along the way, making
an old time favourite, Date and Ginger Loaf.
Sadly, the engine was needed from then till
we put our anchor down at Pancake Creek at 4.15 pm. The trip took 10 hours, covering around 64 nm.
The anchorage is very crowded, and it is
low tide, but we find a spot and settle in. About a hour later Annecam arrived,
the had apparently had fuel problems. They managed to anchor not far from us and we
invited Anne and Campbell over for a roast dinner, as we had a pork roast cooking away on
the Cobb.
They were extremely grateful, and we had a
great night getting to know each other. We intend spending the day here
tomorrow and are invited to their boat for dinner tomorrow night
