Friday 16th June 2017
It is an overcast morning with a 12-15 knot
SE breeze, which within a few hours warms up to another beautiful sunny day,
and the wind drops back to under 10 knots. It seems to be the pattern over the
past week.
The only chore left is some laundry, so we
are ready to go again, and would like to get further north before the next
Southerly blows through. So tomorrows plan is to sail to Pearl Bay, leaving at
around 6am, in company with Kite Runner.
Phil and Wendy from Kite Runner came around
late morning to catch up again and to discuss sailing plans and we all seem to
be in agreement, so it will be great to head North to the next few ports with
them.
As usual, the plan will develop as the
weather forecast firms up over the next few days. Rough plans are to be in
Mackay on Wednesday.
Our morning exercise was a walk over to see
what the ocean looks like, (pretty benign)
and then back to retrieve the laundry.
After lunch we walked out to the tip of the
Southern Breakwall, and back past the fisherman’s Market, where we bought some frozen
coral trout fillets for a nice meal in a few days time.
Looking back from the breakwall to the commercial fleet berths
Late Afternoon lighting up Double Head
Tonight we are dining at the Capricornia
Cruising Club which is a short walk from the marina. The Prince Alfred Group
(10 of us) made a booking and were a significant part of the attendance, had a
great night. The BBQ, and salads, were
prepared by the ladies and gentlemen of the club. The food was great and serves very generous.
This is a Friday night tradition at the club that we have participated in every
time we have visited here. At $15 per person, it has to be the best value meal
anywhere on the coast. It is also refreshing not to be ripped off with very
high wine prices for ordinary wines.
We bid farewell to the rest of the Prince
Alfred boats at the moment, as they are staying another couple of days, but we
will certainly catch up again a little further down the track.
