It’s maintenance and shopping day in
Mackay. I have booked a rental car for the day, as we need to do a bit of
running around. I have found a repair shop that may be able to fix my Metabo
Drill, and we need to top upon groceries and do a bit of other shopping.
It is still blowing hard here, so a day in
the marina is a welcome rest. A fiddling around on the boats keeps us occupied.
Early investigations of Kite Runners Solar
Panel installation were not encouraging. Just about all of the components on
the downstream side of the panels are under sized for the current output and
one of the wires is partly fried. Also the controller, that Phil had specified
as MPPT was PWM.
So our first trip in the car was to drop
off my drill and buy new cable and a MPPT controller for his solar installation. We found a great store called RTM which we
later discovered is related to Jaycar.
Then we drove into Canelands to get
groceries and other essentials.
The afternoon was spent pulling cables and
installing the bits and pieces we had bought for Kite Runner, but the more we
looked, the more we found that needed to be upgraded. It must be a bit disappointing,
given that it was a new installation only a few months old.
Tonight Phil and Wendy shouted us dinner at
the Phoenix Seafood Restaurant at the marina, in appreciation for the help with
sorting out the solar gear. There is still a bit to be done, which will keep us
busy in the morning. The food at the restaurant, Malaysian Chinese, was very good
and the servings very generous. It was a very enjoyable meal.
