More Walking to Alma Bay for a swim, and Lunch at Arcadia Hotel

Monday 21st August 2017

Dalwhinnie departed early this morning for Cape Upstart, as they need to be back at Airlie by the 26th. Conditions are still quite light, so I imagine they will motor or motor sail all of the way. With Mark and Janet from Koonya back in Sydney, only Imagine is left here with us, and we both intend to leave to head South early Wednesday morning.

This morning’s plan is a walk to Alma Bay for a swim followed by lunch at the Arcadia Hotel. It is a bit cooler today, very pleasant for walking.

Peter is still going well with the long walks and scrubbing up pretty well the next day without too many aches and pains.

We set out at around 10am, and it is a relatively easy walk along the shore of Geoffrey Bay. We diverted at the end of the bay to walk around to the old barge landing ramp to see the rock wallabies before moving on to Alma Bay.

Snorkelers find the unused ramp a convenient entry point to explore the nearby reef

The weekend crowds are gone, and the tide is still quite high, so the conditions are ideal. According to the information on the SLSC information board the water temperature is 23 C, ideal for a swim. We all went for w a walk around the rocks and in for a refreshing swim.

Now ready for lunch we walked across to the Arcadia Hotel, and had a pub lunch that was quite good food.

Everyone is up for walking home, so we headed back to Nelly Bay on foot, in total we did around 9 km. Carole and Sharon went even further, walking around to the Western Breakwall and back.

Looking across Cleveland Bay on the way back, the colour of the water is eyecatching

Sue and John from Imagine soon returned back from their day in Townsville and the conversation quickly changed to dinner arrangements. After much discussion, we decided to go to Man Friday, a Mexican Restaurant, with basic International dishes as well.  The food was very good, and the service a bit ordinary, but the local wildlife entertainment made up for it.
