The run of superb weather continues and this
morning we are heading off to do a walk along the bays on the eastern side of
the island finishing at Horseshoe Bay.
We caught the 10am bus to Horseshoe Bay and
got off at the Forts Walk junction and followed the road down to the coast .
The road runs all of the way to Radical Bay with short walks from it to
lookouts and beaches. It is very steep and fortunately we are going downhill. The
road also has some of the biggest potholes I have seen, and rental vehicles are
not allowed to use it, although almost every car we saw was a rental.
The first highlight of the walk is the Arthur
Bay lookout, perched high on the headland to the north of Arthur Bay, a very
popular snorkeling venue.

Next along the trail is Florence Bay, a larger
bay with a stunning beach, which is enormous at low tide.

From here the track takes you into the
bush, eventually emerging at Radical Bay. By now it is quite warm and we have
come prepared with our swimmers, so have a welcome break in the water at this
very popular bay. The water is crystal clear and the yacht we saw anchored here
yesterday is still here bobbing around in the swell.
Radical Bay
Refreshed, we continue on the final part of
our walk which involves a substantial climb over the headland that separates Radical
Bay from Balding Bay, and Balding Bay from Horseshoe Bay. It is a about 2 km to
Horseshoe Bay and we arrive in time for lunch.
The last section of the walk was hard work
Once again we ate at the pub, which has
good food at a reasonable price. We then caught the bus back to Nelly Bay and
relaxed for the rest of the afternoon.
We had all decided to have the prawns, that
we acquired yesterday, for dinner and gathered on Dalwhinnie for a feast of
prawns and salad.
