The forecast still looks OK so, we left the marina at 7.45am. It was a bumpy ride out of Port Bundaberg and for the following hour or so, but there was a tight wind angle, so up went the sails and we motor sailed for more than half of the trip to North White Cliffs. It was uncomfortable for the first few hours and after that the seas flattened out.
We were entertained by whales in Hervey Bay, saw a few dolphins, but not much else.
There are a lot of people on the move today, and the radio traffic is full on, with people logging on and off, and a significant game fishing competition out of Hervey Bay that we follow with great interest.
It took us 9.5 hours to cover the 56 miles to get here and we are greeted with very calm conditions, and more boats than we have ever seen at this anchorage before. There could be quite a lot of traffic going through Sheridan Flats tomorrow on the high tide. It is the only obstacle in going behind Fraser Island and requires careful attention to the timing to ensure there is adequate depth to get through.
We set our anchor in deeper water than we would normally choose, but there are so many boats here, choices are limited. By the end of the day there were over 20 boats here.
There were already lots of boats anchored along the depth line suitable
Fortunately, we have TV reception, so are able to watch the NRL Grand Final and are delighted to see the Cowboys have a win.
