A maintenance day in Mooloolaba

Thursday 8th October 2015

As forecast, the Southerly came in with vengence at midnight. We were happy to be in the marina. Winds apparently reached 40 knots offshore and 30 knots at the marina.

I wouldn't want to be entering the marina under these conditions

Steve's mate Bill with his Maritimo "Our Dream" is in the Great Sandy Straights, planning to run down to Mooloolaba today. Given the weather, the plan has now changed to heading to Southport on Sunday. Our planning currently is to sail to Southport on Sunday, when the conditions look a bit more reasonable.

It gusted 20 -25 knots during the day, with quiet periods but not for long. There are rain clouds around, so at some time today we expect to get a bit of rain.

Morning activities are the usual first day routine in a marina, filling gas bottles, going for a walk with the trolley and jerry cans to get some diesel and checking out the chandlers. It turned out that chandler here is a real gem. He carries an amazing array of items people need and can get stuff in overnight if needed. I manage to get the diesel additive that I have been unable to find until here and a replacement shower nozzle for the transom shower. Smithy needs a few Jabsco toilet parts, and they are ordered and will be here tomorrow. In the meantime, Carole is at the laundry getting our washing done.

For lunch we had fresh prawns from the market and a mango salad made from mangoes for sale in the marina carpark.  It doesn't get much better than that !

The rain finally came, and towards the end of the day it became quite heavy.

We had dinner at the Yacht Club, which was a nice meal at a reasonable price.
