Thursday 5th August
After, formally checking in to the marina when the office opened at 8.30am and doing the usual cleaning up we decided to go into town to do a bit of shopping, go to Telstra to sort out the phone, get a new camera etc.
We caught the bus into the biggest shopping centre in Mackay, Canelands Shopping Town. First stop was Telstra to explain the sorry situation regarding the iphone. It seems my predicament is quite common, and the arrangement is that the phone gets set back to Apple, who verify it is water damaged and not repairable. They will then replace it with a new phone for $280. I was expecting a lot worse, however the logistics of performing this changeover in a short period of time, is below the capability of Telstra, claiming the whole process takes 2 weeks and you cannot organise to have your new phone sent anywhere but the shop you presented the damaged one to. So I bought a cheap phone $99 and will sort the iphone out later.
Next to the camera store, where I bought a middle priced waterproof digital camera, as the old one is unlikely to ever work again.
Then off to the supermarket to stock up on a few necessities, with a big shop planned for tomorrow.
In the meantime I was organising a hire car for tomorrow, as we and Rod and Lee needed to stock up on most things involving a substantial shop, and Carole ans I plan to have a game of golf at Mackay Golf Club.
Finally the car deal was done and we picked it up at the marina at 4.30pm to be returned at 8.30am on Saturday. The only vehicle available was a Hyundai Getz. I can see several trips being necessary.
We headed off to the Mackay Yacht Club for dinner., which was only a short walk from our berth.
