Shopping and Golf in Mackay

Friday 6th August

We were up early as Carole needed to get several loads of washing on at the laundry, and I had to head off to the local service station with the jerry cans to get fuel.

We caught up with Rod & Lee a bit after 9 am and headed into town to order our meat from the local butcher who has an enviable reputation with passing yachties. Having placed our orders, we headed to the Mackay Golf Club, where Rod & Lee dropped us off, with a promise of returning to pick us up when we finished our game. In the meantime they could do their shopping a nd return it to the marina, as there was no way the Getz was going to hold the shopping for the 4 of us.

Carole & I teed off around 10 am and the Mica Cup was back in full swing. Initial impressions of the course, tight fairways and lots of trees, suggested Carole may extend her lead further. Fortunately for Mike the driver was working well, sad about the putting.

Nevertheless the score in the cup has now narrowed considerably, after Carole struggled with the bunkers scoring 30 points, and Mike not having a good day with the putter, but still managing 38 points, to bring the aggregate score to Carole now holding a 1 point lead in the competition.

Rod picked us up after golf and we went shopping at Canelands, loaded it into the Getz, which was now looking full, then off to Dan Murphy's for a beverage top up (now the car is really full), then off to the butcher to collect the meat we ordered in the morning (two large boxes), and a last minute stop at the fish markets to get some prawns ensured we must have set a record for how much you can fit in a 2 door Hyundai Getz.

After finally stowing the new provisions, we went to dinner at the pub at the marina.

Hopefully the weather tomorrow will be right for us to head off into the Whitsundays, although the wind is building tonught and we will need to reassess in the morning.
