For a change of pace today , it was decided
to spend a day on the water, taking two of the boats, Dalwhinnie and Koonya, to
Horseshoe Bay. We joined Dalwhinnie as crew, and Koonya have some friends
visiting, so they went on Koonya.
Initially we were headed for Radical Bay,
where Dalwhinnie arrived first and dropped anchor. However, there was a
persistant swell which made this very pretty, but unprotected bay very rolly.
When Koonya arrived we decided to move
around to Horseshoe Bay, where there is good shelter from the swell.
Horsehoe Bay was perfect, so we rafted up
on Koonya’s anchor and enjoyed the rest of the day. The girls prepared a great
spread for lunch, which was washed down with a few glasses of wine.
After lunch it was time to get in the
water. Stand up paddle boards were launched, and Brian and Janet disappeared
into the distance as the rest of us had a swim off the back of the boats.
Janet had paddled off in the direction of a
couple of trawlers that were in the bay, and arrived back excited that we could
by some prawns off them for $20 per kilo. The dinghy was fired up and back she
went, money in hand to see what she could purchase. We ended up with 5 kg of
frozen prawns, just enough for a kg for each couple and one for John and Deb
back at the marina.
The day went quickly and it was soon
approached 5pm, so reluctantly headed back to Nelly Bay, arriving just before
sunset.
No-one felt like preparing a big dinner, so
we walked across the road to Le Paradis restaurant and had a pizza for dinner.
