Maureens Cove to Cid Harbour

Monday 13th July 2015

It was still rocking and rolling when we left Maureen's Cove this morning and the wind had come up from the SE, so we decided to motor back past Butterfly Bay and around the tip of Hook Island down to Stonehaven for lunch.

Stonehaven

We had some difficulty picking up a mooring line there, which looked like it had been designed to hold a Manly Ferry, and the breeze was gusting strongly. After a rescue mission to retrieve a boathook that went overboard, we were finally secured on the mooring with the help of a nearby yachtsman who came over in his dinghy and passed the line up to Carole.

It turned out to be a very nice stop for lunch with the wind settling down, and as the tide ran out we began to realise just how close the moorings were to the fringing reef. We contemplated staying here, but every now and then the roll came through, so we moved on to Cid Harbour where a good nights sleep could be assured. Whilst at Stonehaven, I ran the water maker and put another 80 litres in the tank.

While at Stonehaven, I put a line in the water hoping that the close proximity to the reef would ensure a nice fish. Unfortunately all I caught was the mooring.

Cid Harbour was very busy with nearly 40 boats anchored there. We couldn't get as close to the shore as we would have liked, but nevertheless found a nice quiet spot. There is very little rolling action here and we sat upstairs having a quiet drink watching the sun go down.

Soon the BBQ was alight and it was steak and salad for dinner followed by a good nights sleep.
