Wet and Windy in Mooloolaba

Monday 2nd and Tuesday 3rd October 2017

The weather has finally turned against us. Monday is very wet and very windy, and we are pretty much restricted to indoors for the day.

We watched a movie, did some reading, went for a grief walk when there was a break in the rain, and hosted Sundowners with Brian and Eric making the effort to come around in the rain.

The wind howled overnight and there was very heavy rainfall, fortunately we managed to BBQ our dinner before it really set in .

Tuesday started with a little more promise with an overcast morning, but at least it wasn’t raining and we were able to walk out along the breakwall to the river entrance. It was low tide, but not pretty. We did see a large commercial fishing boat punch his way out through the white water across the entrance, but it was not something we would do.

On the way back to the boat, we called into the Fish Market and bought 2 kg of  very fresh headless green prawns, which went straight into the freezer.

Carole did the laundry, whilst I went off with my jerry cans to get diesel (our regular in port routine).

Once our chores were out of the way we walked into town, still not raining much at this stage, to get a haircut, buy some fresh fruit and veg and have lunch.

By the time we got back to the boat it was 4pm.  We are expected at Dalwhinnie for sundowners at 5pm, so there is just time for putting the shopping away and showers.

Of course, the closer it gets to 5 pm , the heavier the rain becomes. Nevertheless, we found our way around to Dalwhinnie with Pip and Marg from Moonshadow. Run to Paradise , another CCCA member has arrived on Dalwhinnie’s arm of the marina and are also invited to sundowners and have similar plans to us, leaving tomorrow.

It now seems there may be 4 of us heading down into Moreton Bay tomorrow to take the inside passage to Southport, as the sea state outside Moreton Island still looks pretty uncomfortable. The compromise is a day of shallow water navigation to get to Southport on Thursday.
