Once settled into our marina berth and all
of the paperwork dealt with, it was straight into getting the chores done.
I refueled the boat, haulng jerry cans from
the Fishermans Co-op next door. We put
100 litres into the tank and refilled our 40 litres of spare fuel.
Carole did some washing at the marina
laundry, and we decided to have lunch out, at an outlet near the Fishermans Co-0p which made great hamburgers.
On the way back to our boat we went for a
walk to see how the rebuilding of the Northern seawall is going. The marina
itself is now back and functioning with pretty much all of the berths
available. It looks a bit empty, as it will take some time to attract their old
clientele back.
The marina is getting back to normal
There is still a lot of work going on strengthening the northern seawall
We couldn’t resist having a look at the
harbour to see if the easterly swell is still rolling in. There is quite a bit
of surge within the marina, so we suspected that the rollers are still coming
straight in the entrance. As you can see, it is still there.
Swell still rolling in at around half way through the incoming tide
Back to the boat after our walk, we are
both very tired and have no trouble settling in to an afternoon nap.
At 4.30pm, we were waken by a tap on the
hull. It was Brian and Petra from “Bella” a Hanse 370 with whom we have sailed
many times. They are also on their way North, fulfilling some family
obligations on the way in Coffs Harbour.
No doubt we will catch up with them again,
once they are in a position to go from Coffs. A mate of Steve Smiths also has
his boat here, having encountered serious gearbox problems on his way North. He hasn’t had a great start to his campaign
North, having also had to get repairs in Port Stephens
Smithy's mates boat awaiting repairs before continuing North ?
We are dining on board tonight and suspect it will be an early night, although this afternoons nap made a huge difference.
