Geoffrey Bay, Arcadia and Alma Bay

Monday 10th August 2015

Another beautiful day at Magnetic. Not sure how long this current weather pattern can last but the last few days have been terrific. Given another great day our plan is to walk to Alma Bay along the coast, past Geoffrey Bay and Arcadia to have a swim at what is probably one of the nicest bays on the island for a swim.

We are not disappointed when we get to Alma Bay and the tide is on the way out, as the beauty of this bay is that the bottom is very sandy and it does not dry to rock and reef at low tide.

The water temperature was most acceptable and we enjoyed our swim here with a number of other like minded people.

Refreshed, we walked over to the Arcadia Hotel to get something for lunch, only to find there was only one food outlet open, which was a cafe with not a great food selection. We thought we would continue on towards Nelly Bay and drop in at the Arcadia "shopping centre", where a restaurant and bar called Gilligans is located. It was also closed.

With little alternative we walked back to Nelly Bay, and bought something at the IGA supermarket for lunch before retiring to our boat.

In our absence , another Hanse, Soleil, has arrived and is in the berth next to Koonya. We have caught up with Dave and Diane from Soleil a number of times on this trip, and caught up with them later in the day for sundowners.

Mark and Janet farewelled their family who left for Townsville on the 1pm ferry, and have now moved back to the marina.

After sundowners, the four of us went to the local Thai Restaurant "Thai Again". It was a restricted menu and there was not much service, but the food was good.
