Anchors were up at 8 am, and the whole
Hanse team moved on to Curlew Island.
There was a variable breeze never exceeding 8 knots and everyone motor
sailed for the 5 hr journey.
Koonya didn't even bother to put up a sail
Mica motorsailing to Curlew
Fortunately it is a bright sunny day, and
arrival at Curlew under these conditions is quite stunning, with the rugged
headlands and bright blue water. The
anchorage is large and like all of these anchorages, you need to anchor a fair
way out because of the shoaling shorelines and big tidal range. A turtle stuck
its head out of the water bedside our boat just as we were anchoring.

After lunch on board we headed ashore to
have a walk on what must be one of the best beaches up here, have a swim, and
catch up with the other Hanse owners and met a few new people who were also
stretching their legs. Later in the day, our mates from Charm came around the
corner in their catamaran, and also settled in.
We also saw Smithy’s mate, Don, in his Bavaria “Magma”, who also arrived
soon after us.

Dinner tonight is on Koonya, and we had a
nice meal and recounted adventures of the day, including Janet’s latest fishing
success. This time she caught a turtle, which fortunately broke the line when it
surfaced.
The anchorage was a bit rolly overnight,
but we managed to get a good nights sleep.
